Captives

“Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead.”
― Charles Bukowski

I wanted to write a blog post about addiction but given my last few posts, I think I’ll switch it up a little bit. I’ve always had a strange relationship with my parents while they were alive. I find it interesting because hearing other people’s thoughts about parents showed that everyone had differing relationships as well. Hopefully, writing about them will give me a release and finally have something to look at later and say “Oh yeah, they were arseholes”.

So I was brought up here, there, and everywhere. We moved around a lot till 1990 when we settled in North Wales. I was 8 at the time so I remember this location better than the others. The others were just a blur really. I do remember the playroom of the house in Peterborough being haunted though. My mum said there was a little girl there who liked to play with the toys when me and my brother (dickhead herein). Dickhead never mentioned seeing her, but I would. And it freaked me out. But that’s a topic for another conversation. Back to my parents. My mum was Dutch and my dad was Scottish. This made for an interesting dynamic in the house. My mum was very liberal with things. An example of this is one day in high school, I would regularly skip school. I’d sneak out the front gate and walk along the beach and into town. I would buy cigarettes as I looked older and then sell them to the kids in school. So anyway one day I decided to go and get a haircut. Did that and then came back to school and slipped into the lesson. I think it was Welsh. Mrs Evans pulled me out of the class and questioned the haircut. I did explain that maybe she was getting old because how could I get a haircut if I was in school all day. She wouldn’t drop it. So I got sent to the head of year, and they asked, I said I had a doctor’s appointment and decided to smarten myself up on the way back to school. He then phones home. My mum answered, “Did your son have a GP appointment today”, “Yes”, “Oh erm okay sorry to have bothered you”. Sent back to class. I spoke to Mum after school and she never mentioned it. It must have happened a few times and she always had my back. I’ll never forget in primary school how my dad told the teacher off about Welsh. “It’s not a real language, no one uses it and I won’t have my son learn it”. Not embarrassing at all. Then there was the time mum bought me and dickhead fireworks. For fun. I was 10. SO naturally we started lighting them and throwing them on the street. The police officer comes running telling us it’s illegal etc. Mum pretends she can’t speak English and speaks Dutch to the police officer. We run out of fireworks. The police said not to do it again. Madness.

See I have a conflict because of all the fun we had as kids having crazy parents it did ruin things a bit. You wanted to have a stable household or be told off once in a while about something that all other kids would be told off for. Let’s see. Drinking was acceptable at age 12+, and smoking weed was fine so long as you didn’t stink the farmhouse out, hell, you could grow it like dickhead did. So long as Dad didnt find out about the grow then all was good. Smoking 14+. Never an issue given they both had 40-a-day addiction. Forced labor aged 12 (with a work permit) at the factory packing bottles for £3hr. So technically not forced labor as we were paid but EVERY half term, summer vacation we were worked. Hard work. Very manual work. They did instill a work ethic in us. It motivated me to get away from Wales ultimately. It took one worker saying “You’ll just end up here like everyone else”. Sod that I thought. High School -> College and then Uni. I did work there during the holidays to generate extra cash for uni.’

My mum would drink every day. She would dilute the wine with water but then drink twice as much. She would pop pills like candy and give me valium from age 10 when I couldn’t sleep or if I was moaning about something. Sore body part? codeine. There was a pill for everything. I was raised thinking it was totally acceptable to take copious amounts of meds and to “help myself if I need it” attitude has caused lasting damage. The same with drinking. Because wine isn’t drinking. It’s just wine. Aged 12 and drinking almost every day. Really set me up for when the sexual abuse started.

And now I’ve lost the point and plot of this post. Both parents are dead. My mum died in 2014 due to lung cancer and my dad died in 2018 due to dementia. After my mum died I got into her email account to check for bills. She manipulated the f8ck out of everyone, playing them off and generally lying about things that happened. I read some heartbreaking emails. “I wish he would kill himself so the suffering stops”. Things like that. My dad’s dementia was intense. I tried to be there as much as I could, through all the disbelief and paranoia that he had from it. Having to constantly explain that mum died as he’d forget. When he was in the hospital I would be weak and give in a few times “Mum is on her way from the farm now”. He would smile and fall asleep. I was holding he is hand when he died. I felt him squeeze and shuffle backward in his hospital bed. “Do what you need to do Dad”. Then he died. It still upsets me to this day. I can deal with accusations, paranoia, and things but that was the first time someone died in front of me. I phoned dickhead to come to meet me at the hospital. I cried in the stairway for 10 minutes straight before he pinged me that he was there. I cried not because I miss him but because of all the shit he caused in the four years after Mum died. I did pretty much everything for him for 4 years. Being called a thief when he couldn’t find his wallet, or that I was giving him the wrong pills, that he never washed for over a year and would just soil his nappies instead of getting up and walking to the toilet.

I could go on forever. If I was to be asked if I miss them? sadly my answer would be no. Not really. I used to miss phone calls with my mum but that stopped after seeing the emails. As for Dad, well, whatever happens to you when you die will hopefully be better than living in your own filth. Parents are great because they teach us a lesson. The lesson of what not to teach your own kids.

QOTD

What recharges me the most?

Okay so I just spent the past ten minutes trying to find an image of the place that recharges me the most. Long story short, when I lived in the mountains we had some land, on that land was a hill. There is specific spot I used to walk up and sit down on, which was the top of the valley looking down over the occasional house below. This is in Wales, so away from all the towns and things, just in the middle of no where.

I sat staring into the distance, the sun raining down on me; warming up my whole body from the chilly breeze that was gently passing by. I can see the mountains, Snowdon, the denbigh plains. Its all green and unspoilt. I can hear the cows in one of the fields next door. A red kite (the bird not the kite) flys above searching the fields below for signs of life it can end. I would sit there for hours, with a book, sometimes music but always at the same spot. I think it started in high school. I sort of wandered up the track to the right of the farm house, up over and up again and just became my happy place. No one around, just the sheep and cows for company. The grass was always such a lovely shade of green, especially when the local farmer came and cut the grass for hay. Sometimes I would go up on the quad bike, others walking. Mostly walking. Oh god at night time it was fantastic. No light pollution and you could see everything. I used to lay there staring at the stars and destroying my brain thinking about how far things are away from us.

I do have a photo. I can’t get to it to show you but the thing that recharges me most is, even if its a glimpse, a photo or memory of that special place. I grew up there for the best part of 15 years. The farm belongs to someone else now so I can’t get there. Not to mention its 100 miles away and no doubt I’d get done for trepass at this time of night. But, yes, I can sit here and close my eyes and instantly feel lifted if I find that place in my minds eye.

A new dawn…

Hey.

This will be my first proper post in about 2 years. It is something that I miss doing as it helps me, or so the therapist says, to get things off my chest and on to paper. Although I do prefer writing on paper. Even though my hand hurts after an hour or so. Woo. Go the computer generation!

So since this is technically my first post…

Andy Young My name is Andy. I come from Wales but I live & work in Manchester. I like shiny objects, have a strange addiction to nicotine patches and diet coke. So now you know at least one two random facts about me. Hopefully I will have figured out how to put an image in here of me.

Ok, less of the specifics about me as sharing isn’t a key quality in me if I know the person, if I don’t and they don’t know me I’ll quite happily share to my hearts content. Music. That is something which is a huge part of my life. I’m one of these firm believers that there is a song for every conceivable moment in life.

An example, driving through Manchester city centre, 5am in the morning when the light is just starting to creep through the city. Its still dark and murky but you can work out the figures and objects emerging. I had ‘Sweet dreams – Marilyn Manson‘, I’m aware that isn’t the name of song but um nur nur nur, nur nur sweet dreams are made of thiiissss. That one. He covered it which happened to be particularly good.

I once spent a whole summer living the life of a vampire. Not ripping out peoples throats and drinking blood! … actually today’s vampires don’t do that. They wear mascara and have hair covering there eyes. Anyways. I would wake and rise late in the afternoon and sleep at 9am. I used to listen to loads of music during that time. Bob Dylan specifically. Say what you will about his upbringing, poor little rich boy etc, but his music has always had a nice calming effect on me. Even now as I type I can hear the lyrics to shelter in the storm. Sort of a conditioned programming through sleep deprivation from a decade ago heh.

*reads back* hmm. not painting a well rounded image of myself am I.

Have a picture of Molly, the words best dog ™

Molly Wog

Molly is amazing. She makes everything that is bad, wicked and evil in the world better. She does it with a smile, a lick and a leg hump. Yes, alas, my dear sweet Molly is in fact a lesbian. Much rather prefers the company of my leg as opposed to cuddling up with a boy dog. That aside, she is still cute despite being old and into the whole ‘hairing thing’.

So this will do for now. Hugs for all. Oh. Yes. I like hugging everyone. What can I say, I’m cuddly 😉

Friday randomness

I blinked and it became Friday. Partially because I had the day off yesterday. Although John from work summed it up, its not really a day off when you do the next days work the day before in the evening. Alas, it was the only way I could get time off, work till 10pm at night.

It was worth it though.

I then had a lovely lazy day walking around the nice air conditioned Trafford centre, fighting past the zombie hoards of people collecing the new iPhone things.

They have a really good shop there, well, apart from Selfridges which I think is awesome, a place called Home Sense where they sell the most random things. I got a parker pen. I’ve never had a proper pen so its nice to have something posh to use in meetings and things.

Molly has started leaving presents of hair around the house.

Note to self: Return the favour and put beard trimmings in her basket.

I woke up at 8am. I though it was 6am. It was crap.Stuff like that always messes up the day!

Baby is now 5.6″ and weighs 6.7 ounces.

I can’t wait till mid-July for the 21 week scan. 21 week scan because they couldn’t get a decent image last time so hopefully delaying it a week should make it clearer. Hopefully everything will be ok.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

QotD: It’s the Little Things…

Do you keep track of how much money you spend on non-essential luxuries, like gourmet coffee and snacks? Are there certain little indulgences you cannot live without no matter how tight your budget?
Sponsored by: My LifeScoop: Bringing You Tips for a Connected LifeStyle

Yes & No. Keeping an eye on everything would be a bad thing. I figure if you can afford one or two, small, luxury items then life is good. For me it would be my can of diet Coke. As silly as that sounds, I must have my can every day. Preferably before work as that way I can focus on my work. However sometimes I let it slide till lunch time and purposely walk for 30 mins to a certain shop to get it.

So that is all of 60p!

*thinks* blowing circa £50 on iTunes, consistantly, every month I could border line life without. However, music plays a very important role in my life. I could get away with filing that under essential heh.

100_1259100_1282

I forgot to post these two pictures yesterday.

JD is all his awesomness at the farm a couple of weeks ago. He has gotten so fat, but his is still so huggable it brings a tear to your eye to see him leave. Chocolate on the other hand is still as vicious as ever. I keep forgetting how sharp his little claws are and how easily they scratch, even when he is just stretching!

Work was hectic today.

Hectic days are never good because there are enough hours in the day to finish my to-do list and project management. They also decided to change Asda at Eastlands again. Foolish people, it was fine. I’m sure the Mancunians will unite and demand the store to be changed back.

Oh. WHEN did they start charging per sodding item from the Doctors‘? Complete and utter madness. In Wales perscriptions are free. You don’t pay a single penny. I went to the doctors and got perscribed two items. I thought, “Fair enough, £7.50.”. But no. Per item. I even made a fool of myself complaining that the silly doctor should have put both on the same perscription, but was correct. That would be the naive Welsh person inside me.

Grr. Money is tight as it is without the NHS screwing me over! What’s worse is I have to go back in two weeks for more!

I’ll stop ranting non-sensically now.

The Weekend Report…

They should invent a device which causes a time distortian at weekends, slowing down time to at least a 2:1 ratio. They always come and go so quickly. Although someone would no doubt abuse said device and then no one could use it. In second thoughts, lets not invent the device but instead create a four day weekinstead. *thinks* sad as that is, there is probably a group on facebook for that.I had a lovely weekend.

A picture paints a thousand words.

100_1300100_1328100_1327

On Saturday headed to Sale Water park, a really nice place. The lake there is the result of the M60 being built, so naturally they turned it into a nature reserve. Probably to offset the motorway. Heh. Anyways, its a nice place, really lovely for walking the Wog. You can tell it is in Manchester because you have a pylon. J took a very pretty picture of the said pylon.

100_1305100_1306100_1321

Molly even had a swim! The ducks in the pond were poised to attack but I think she scared them away. It was so cute, she got water in her ear mid swim out, stopped, lost the stick, grabbed it again and swam back for reassurance.Oh the last picture is of me before the hair I just got heh. It was also sunny. Hence squintingness.

100_1336100_1334100_1345100_1346

Today headed over to Wales as it is my Dad’s birthday. We went to the dutch pancake house as planned, which as always, was made of awesome. As you can clearly see from the pancake! My dad thought he would pretend to be Hilter with his pancake. Then some ducks came along to play, with Hens following closely behind. I mean, how can I go home and not see wildlife?

It was a nice day.

The haircut I just recieved was good too. Less hair = yay.

Many hugs all.

M60 at Night

A-ha! I think vox has finally conceeded and allowed me to put the image
in. The beneath was taken at night on a foot  bridge near Jen's. We
were messing about the shutter speeds and also messing with drivers
heads with the flash on the camera. Nothing like seeing a line a cars
slamming on the breaks after seeing the flash.

Today has been a nice day. Work has been interesting today, and
has been for the past couple of months. Despite the effect the
recession has had on everyone it has spurred on new developments
greatly. So planning new projects for new ideas is both exciting and
taxing in equal measures. But is fun. Nothing worse that doing the same thing over and over.

Which leads me onto this film. Room 1408 which is a really good film.
Very scary as well which is a rare thing these

days. When a director
does over kill on the effects (see AVP2) and tries to cater for
everything it just ruins the film completely. This on the other hand uses really good special effects which promotes an idea which scares you. At least it did me, people will probably disagree with that one. Stephen King films, I've found are usually hit and miss. I loved 'The Stand' the book was really good as well, and was much more of an action film, then you have IT or Desperation. Which was a fantastic book-film adaptation.

1408 was great because it played of fears which most of us have. Then the cliche horror ones such as staring into a reflection and seeing something come up behind you. In the case of this film what did it for me was when he thought he had broken free of the room and reality came literally crashing in.

Saying that I love my horror films. Me and Jen have a hell of a collection going on now. Must be in the region of 350-400 dvds. At least half being horror films. I have a love for cheesy Evil Dead types. As well as anything zombie related or 'Of the dead' plastered at the end. Just a shame we don't get Zone Horror as its a highlight of going to see Jen's dad who has it! Awesome channel.

I've been stopped from going back to Wales this weekend because of Bob. My mum doesn't want JD to be near another male dog. Its a shame as I was looking forward to going back. If only to go to the craft shop with Jen, and maybe a quick stop at the fabric shop to see the different things they have there. Will have to make do with Hobby Craft and online stores. Which now puts me in the mood to do either some more scrap booking or mosiac tiling.

On the plus side its apparently going to be another sunny weekend. So I think this time we should get prepared and put on some sun tan lotion to stop evil burning happening again. Am looking forward to it. I truly love the summer, and it always puts me in such a better mood.

We stopped by the new house last night to check out the playground. We were both stunned with what we found. We learned the property has a garage annnd the right of way is actually far from the house! not only that but huge playing fields so I can run Molly in the morning!! Also not a sign of shiny white trainers nor tracksuit bottomed people! woo!

I've also managed to fall in love with 'We're Not Gonna Take It' such a good song for when its sunny. Lovely and uplifting.

The Weekend

Hola everybody. I had a nice weekend, although it was a
little brief but then I think all weekends end up like that, the dreading of
the Monday coming and a continuous countdown in your head whilst you try and
enjoy the time you have off. Sort of like holidays from work, the stupid “day
after the day after I’m back at work”.

Anyways.

I had a nice weekend. Me and Jen had to go back to Wales, so
we ended up doing random things around there. As is are custom we kill some
time at any random place that serves food after I finish work, otherwise the
evil that is the m60 gets busy. So least this way we don’t have to sit in a
queue of traffic. It was nice when we got there, my mum had gotten in a few
things for me and Jen to enjoy. Namely some nice Gammon steaks that I grilled
up on Saturday for dinner.

We went on a mission to get the brakes sorted on her car since
they are running low. Turns out the discs need doing as well, and naturally as
sods law would have it, they had none in stock. We had a nice walk around Angel
Bay on Sunday, unfortunately I don’t have the pictures here but they are on
Jens camera. So soon as I can steal then off her I’ll throw some up here.

The fog was nice and thick which made things … pretty? Think
that would be the best word for it. Then we left, came back to the land of
Manchester, where we proceeded to have a nice dinner and *thinks* oh oh
we did a jigsaw of evilness. Well it was nice, but it was round. So boo for
that. Would be nice to do more of them.

Its sad that the thing I miss most about Wales isn’t my
parents, nor my brother, or the place for that matter. Its JD. And Chocolate.
The cat not the food. Spend a lot of time missing those two, think it’s because
they are both mine and I spent such a long time with them when I got them,
rescued them. JD is the worst. I remember when I used to share my bed with him
all the time, that was when he was 20kg lighter, but meh. Dumb dog. And
Chocolate was awesome. He would protect me against most things, and cuddle up
to JD when he could. Now he doesn’t really come near me. Think he doesn’t know
who I am anymore.

Anyways. Enough of the sad things. I had a lovely weekend,
and I saw my animals so all is ok.
