A good neighbor? A Si… QOTD

Daily writing prompt
What makes a good neighbor?

A good neighbor would be a silent one who, when late at night, sees you digging a 6-foot-deep hole, silently joins you with a spade, and you dig together. That’s neighborly love. Maybe in my warped mind. A good neighbor knows when to come round, take a hint, defrost each other’s cars in the morning, taking turns. All that good stuff.

Unfortunately, you don’t get much of that here, well, here being in a city. Here you are just happy if your neighbor hasn’t keyed your car or put a knife through your wheels. Back in Wales. Now that’s a completely different story. In Wales, they come round and have dinner with you, look after the house while you’re away, you share your garden homegrown harvest with, and you are actually proud to have them as a friend.

An example, Martin, who has since departed, would come round all the time, or we would go to him and help him out with things. He was a nice neighbor to have. He would look after the house, feed the chickens when we were away, and we would cook him proper meals and have him sit with us in the dining room. Martin came to support my dad’s funeral although never meeting him. He was, for all purposes, a good man. A neighbor.

I would love to have a neighbor like that here. I really would. Maybe when I finally get into the flat, I’ll be pleasantly surprised, and my neighbors are nice. There is a Ukrainian social club on the same street, so wondering what that’ll be like living next to.

Bad neighbors. Good neighbors. Makes for an interesting life, but definitely prefer good neighbors. The line was crossed when the neighbors opened up our parcels, more than once, thinking it was theirs. Once maybe, two, three times? Nah. That’s just rude.

QotD: Why I Blog

Why do you blog?
Submitted by Syafira.

Its something I've done since 1998? something like that. Towards the end of highschool and as a way of venting my frustrations. I started off with my own site and progressed from there. I work by writing everything out and then look at it, and then things suddenly make sense in my head.

Unfortunatly I do the same at work which is why there is paper everywhere with notes and pictures scribbled all over them. Probably because I dont have the brain capacity to work it out up there heh.

Also, yes, good way of keeping in touch with friends. But the idea when I first started was never for that reason but just a place to vent my views and things to make myself feel better.

And the lord said…

Let there be light! a flat! And it was good.

Great news! After a fantastic month and a half at the motel, I have successfully secured a lovely flat. I am thrilled to share that I passed all the necessary checks with flying colors and even aced a phone interview. The flat is currently undergoing some lovely decoration work, and I will be able to move in as soon as it’s complete. The support I’ve received from the incredible charity has been nothing short of amazing. They’ve graciously provided me with brand new white goods, including a kettle, toaster, and microwave. Additionally, they’ve also supplied airbeds and sheets. With everything falling into place, I am hopeful and optimistic that by the end of next week, I’ll be happily settled in my new home. Wish me luck!

I’m also on a spiral. See, what I love about mental health problems is that you have bad days and good days. But no. Oh, no. We can’t possibly have good days, so the anxiety increases from a bad day to good news. Gut-wrenching, overwhelming anxiety ball in your stomach. Couldn’t just be happy with the news, could you, brain? My problem is I’ll get so overwhelmed with anxiety and emotion that I just don’t know what to do with it. The only vent I have really is self-harm. Can’t even do that as I’m wearing a T-shirt that I like and don’t want blood on it. It’s exhausting. I’ve had mental health on the phone, then my other charity was on the phone about the good news on white goods.

Brain, seroiusly. Stop.

Other stuff. Seeing the kids tomorrow as I’ll be babysitting, which is awesome. Haven’t seen them in a few days, so it will be nice. I’ll be lucky to get more than ten minutes out of them as they crawl into their pits or rooms, as they are formally known.

And heres some for you …

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Tipping!

Its more common sense than anything else but my Granny used to always say that when you are staying in a place for more than a few nights, pick a waiter and drop him a large tip and then you will magically have someone there to take your order or top up your drink.

I do this, even when it might not vbe welcome, to 90% of the services I use, always 20% unless they do something wrong but no pressure. In the UK I’m not sure tipping is the same as it is in America. You hear lots of people complaining over there that they get shafted on tips. I like to think that the tips I give here go to that actual person or the kitchen staff get a cut of it.

Let there be musica!

Daily writing prompt
What things give you energy?

So for me to get some quick energy in a down, dreary day I listen to music. It refreshes and charges the whole body. It can be most songs that get me going. Moody music, as I call it, like todays latest stuff works really well but golden oldies are they are now like Shakira, Aguilera, Spears all have this infectious beat. Hey, dont get me wrong, I love my cradle of filth just as much but these two and half minute tracks really get me moving.

I suppose the other thing is coffee. Which, day 30, of staying in this motel, tends to be more tea than coffee. If I could bring the bean to cup Id be happy but think management might have a problem with it grinding away all day. So for now a good old fashioned brew does me well. Have to use powdered milk but hell nature will find its way.

Parental what?

What are your parents values? how do they differ from mine?

I think its safe to say, with my parents, that if you do the exact opposite of what they did then you will turn out ok. Evidence number one, “Mummy I have a headache”, “Swallow this” *hands Valium to a ten-year-old*. Evidence 2, All Catholics are evil and you must be better than them because they are sub-human scum and the pakis too.

They had a very unique parenting system. We moved to quite a remote farm and they were working a lot on the water farm. The staff became family and friends I think they taught me and my brother more about life than our parents. That said, we are alive, damaged, but alive so can’t fault them for that. Some of the stuff they pulled, said and done were incredible. They differ so much from my values in just about every way. Racism and evil Catholics are the big stand-out ones. The hatred that man had for religious folks was insane. I am in no way like this, nor are my children. Everyone is equal, everyone can be who or whatever they want to be. Be good to each other and karma is a very real thing.

I hear toxic. I hear Britney.

What are some toxic habits I have?

Ugh.

  1. Lack of empathy, coldness and not understanding – Being a borderline makes understanding other people’s emotions a bit weird. Say I ask you a question and you answer. Most people leave it at the at but no, not me. I’ll be judging the tone of your reply, your body language, and the way you worded it. Everything. Oh god, you must be angry and it’s my fault, Let me cut off my arm or give t you to escape the shame.
  2. Ego – I’m so good at x I can do anything. Skiing down a slope thinking this can’t be hard. Twisted my thumb and almost broke it. That’s just one example.
  3. Wanting to watch the world burn – Nothing gives me greater pleasure than putting myself in a worse position than I already am just for the sake of those words. i.e. Give the beggar all the money I need for rent.
  4. Lying & cheating – Yup usually goes with loyalty but the downside of it.
  5. New social skills – I don’t work well with others because my social skills are somewhat lacking.
  6. Drugs. – And alcohol too. Been clean for a very long time but that voice is and will always be there.
  7. Procrastination. – I will do anything I can to avoid doing the things I need to do.

I like you. Can I see you’re brains.

What are the qualities and traits that other people have that I admire

Ah see this is a good one, I see loads of qualities in my friends that I would love to have. In no particular order, I give you…

  1. Emotional regulation – Yes sadly I have massive issues with emotional control which others seem to possess
  2. Focus – I have too many plates spinning at any time to bring one plate down and finish seems impossible.
  3. Procrastiation – I can sit there for hours hallucinating shit but not focus on being productive
  4. Intellect – I wing it, would be nice to borrow a few of my friend’s brains.
We will cap it there as it’s just plain depressing but having friends who have these traits makes it an honour to call them my friends.
