A healthy dose of EGO

What are 3 traits I love about yourself? describe them in detail.

That’s like the biggest ego massage of a question, what happens if you don’t love yourself, have no redeeming qualities and generally suck? … self-esteem issues, me? No. Of course not.

Kindness
I will find all ways of pleasing someone in as much capacity as possible. Whether it’s giving something back to the homeless or picking up sweets randomly for the kids. Apparently, I do this to a fault. People become accustomed to this treatment and I end up not enjoying it any more which sucks. But before that, it makes me insanely happy to see someone else being happy because of my small gesture. Skin-tingly nice feelings.

Loyalty
From keeping a secret about a boy you like or that suspicious new flower bed in the garden. You can count on me to keep you loyal. I don’t think I have ever jumped ship on anyone and pretty much all my friends will have me fighting in their corners Hell I spent three years of uni looking after my drunken breather and got them home safe each night. Do you want to take on an army? O’ll be stood side by side with you facing impossible odds. Whatever it takes.

Is It bad that I can only think of two traits? The rest in my mind are terrible when I think about them. Negative traits I could talk about in another post.

Why don’t we have flying cars

What are the things I’m looking forward to during my lifetime?

My son meeting his first love, my daughter or stepdaughter getting married, to who or whatever they want. I look forward to a time when both kids can say “I’m happy” or “ feel loved”. Whether that is about me or as parents or they’re partner saying it, it matters not, only that they are happy. Go for that degree but remember to have fun and enjoy it.

If you meant outside of the family setting:

  1. Landing on Mars.
  2. Zombie apocalypse
  3. Deliveries by drones
  4. Viable moon base
  5. Cold fusion reactors
  6. We stop hunting whales
  7. Real working stargate being discovered in Egypt
  8. The first person to buy a country
  9. Aliens sending a signal back to Earth,
  10. Cure for cancer in my lifetime. Hopefully, it won’t mess with the population too much.
  11. opening all my Pokemon cards and putting them away.

QOTD – Lack social skill

Daily writing prompt
What personality trait in people raises a red flag with you?

Hmm. Not sure if its a trait but its better than the generic answer of ‘toxic’. Of course a toxic person is red flag. Sometimes its a red flag in the sense of a bull and the woman is attracted to that or vice versa.

Mines simple. I have goods you wish to buy. You want them. Money needs to be exchanged. “Oh I dont get paid till next week, thanks”. Son. of. a. bitch. Next comes “I’ll pay half now and the rest next weej”.

Its the assuption that I’m okay with this deal and I lack the social skills to say no, fuck off. I sold you something, you pay for it and then take the item.

So put that into a personality trait and qotd answered.

Could just be me being a push over.

Ah haaa. When you want to discuss an issue you are personally having ie. a mental health problem, and they got into this whole how everyone has this problem so you should stop complaining narrative guised up in “Oh well I have that” instead of just listening for five minutes and I’d be done.

What brings a tear of joy to your eye?

I am well emotional. Especially when it has something to do with the following:

  • Family – especially the kids when they smile, laugh, have an engaging conversation.
  • Mile stones – Borthdays, Christmases and special events where we hug each other and are generally having a moment.
  • Church – The unity of people brings a tear to my eye when they talk about jesus and have fierce retoric. I’m not religious I just got when the ex-wife was making me.
  • Speeches – Terrible for that but oddly enough I can carry out speeches at funerals with no real issues.
  • Bag pipes – Not because of the pain caused to my ear drum but being half scottish means I have a special place in my heart for them.

Someone might think I have emotional personality disorder..

Share a story about the furthest you’ve ever traveled from home.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold.

If you get it you, get it.

The longest flight I’ve been on was a Heathrow to St Lucia. I being all of 14 dying for a nicotine hit in the humid, loud and generally uninviting plane cabin. My dad was friends with a factory owner there who wanted my dad to install and set up a water bottling company. He asked if we could tag along, me & my brother, for some culture lessons.

We hit the tarmac and in true style, the factory owner waved us past security control and bundled us into a black car and drove for what felt like hours. The cigarette cravings now pounding my head. We got to a bar. It was night. Mum and Dad went into the no-walled bar and ordered us all drinks. I walked a few feet and it was literally sea.

I looked up.

“Bro.. Look up”, I said. “Why?” he grumbled. “Just fucking look up”.

“Whoa”

If you live with light pollution at night you don’t see many stars. When you come to a poorer country and look up with no light pollution. IT BLOWS YOUR MIND. You could see everything. To a 14 year old that was a significant moment in my life. That there are stars up there. That we cannot be alone. So many stars. So not trying to quote 2001: Space Odyssey.

So after doing that for what seemed like hours. I scored some smokes. I was given some salt fish and a banana milkshake. I lay back on one of the deck chairs. I started to live.

Where did your name come from?

Jennifer.

That’s what my name was chosen for me until I was born and male and they kindly chose the name, Andrew. Then it was Andy after I was like 13.

Ironic that my first daughter’s Mums name is Jennifer.

I like to think I’d be a good Jennifer. Kind, giving, and loving. But rule with an iron fist.

What do you enjoy most about writing?

It’s more of a love-and-hate relationship. Actually. No. Remember that superhero movie that came out in the late 90s where they all had crap superpowers. You had this one guy who could turn invisible but only if no one was looking at him. THAT. But with writing. It has to be done when no one is staring at me or if I feel pressured to. Otherwise, your gonna get shit.

I do enjoy it for the most part because it allows me a freedom that I don’t have in a day-to-day sense; I can say things on here that I cannot repeat in public. Suppose you could call that hiding as well in a sense but I enjoy it. I love reading other people’s blogs and thoughts. It’s nice to be part of such a massive community that writing brings.

I’m also a letter writer. Now that’s something I love to do. Sealing the letter with wax and writing with a fountain pen.

What brings you peace?

The most simple things in life often bring me the greatest level of peace. Sitting in the garden watching the birds attack the bird feeders. Typing on a new keyboard. I only say that last one because I’ve had to buy a no-noise one as my previous mechanical one was driving B crazy. He can have one but god forbid anyone else does. So that’ll sit in a box till I move out and then I can use it again. Till then? this lovely no-noise one will have to suffice.

Back to the question. I don’t think I can put it into words. I have only felt true peace a couple of times in my life. You know. Total and utter peace, like standing a the edge of a diving board and jumping. That feeling in your stomach when you just let go. Everything around you melts away and its just you, no one else, nothing. Just you and peace. True peace.

The first time I ever encountered it was when I was driving between Manchester and North Wales when my parents were both alive. Just me in the car. The perfect song was playing, it was sunset, the sky a hue of different oranges, and me. I can remember the exact location on the motorway when it happened. It was like all this noise and hectic thoughts built up and up and then crescendo and boom. Total. Utter. Peace. I let go of everything at that moment. I was just existing. Still in control of the car but that was an afterthought.

I’ve never managed to replicate that feeling in over 10 years. It really was that unique. I’ve come close to back in my former drug days. Creating pure adrenaline and the come down from that. It wasn’t even that close.

That was an awesome feeling. Not the drugs one but the driving one. Like the moon, planets and stars aligned all at once for that perfect moment.

Write about a random act of kindness you’ve done for someone.

Back in 2021, my company MyOutsourcedIT had a backlog of clients. So basically I run a company where people donate laptops and other devices and then I pass them back out refurbished into the community for free. Well, it was early days in the business, I had no laptops left but plenty of desktops. I rang around the next 20 people on the list and said I can drop them off. It was Christmas Eve, rushing around people’s houses giving them computers till 7pm at night. I was shattered but was nice to see how thankful people were. And suspicious as they kept asking “Free?”.
