Crappy Poem #1

Depression

Depression is a dark cloud
That hangs over my head
It follows me everywhere
And makes me feel so dread

I can’t seem to shake it
No matter what I do
It’s like a heavyweight
That’s weighing me down

I feel so tired
And I don’t want to do anything
I just want to stay in bed
And hide from the world

I know I’m not alone
But it doesn’t make it any easier
I just wish I could find a way
To make it go away

But for now,
I’ll just have to Deal with it the best I can
And hope that one day
The cloud will finally lift

Black dog

The black dog was always there. It followed me everywhere I went, lurking in the shadows, waiting to pounce. I could never see it clearly, but I knew it was there. It was the depression.

It started slowly. At first, I just felt a little bit down. I didn’t want to go out, and I didn’t enjoy the things I used to. But then, it got worse. I started to have trouble sleeping, thinking, and existing, and I couldn’t concentrate on anything. I felt worthless and hopeless.

I tried to fight it, but the black dog was too strong. It knocked me down, and I couldn’t get back up. I stopped going to work, and I stopped seeing my friends. I just stayed in all day, feeling sorry for myself.

I was trapped in my house. I had a chronic illness that made it difficult for me to move around, and I had a social anxiety disorder that made it difficult for me to interact with people. I was also experiencing a functional neurological event that made it impossible for me to leave my house.

I felt like I was all alone. I didn’t know how to get better. I thought about self-harm as the only answer right now. A way to release the pain and feel something else. Even just of a second.

One day, I was lying on the sofa, feeling sorry for myself, when I heard a voice.

“You’re not alone,” the voice said.

I looked up, and I saw a figure standing in the doorway. It was a woman, and she was wearing a white dress.

“Who are you?” I asked.

“I’m the light,” she said. “I’m here to help you see through the darkness.”

The woman came over to me and stood next to the edge of my sofa. She took my hand, and she looked into my eyes.

“You’re not worthless,” she said. “You’re not hopeless. You’re a valuable person, and you deserve to be happy.”

The woman’s words touched me deeply. I started to cry.

“Thank you,” I said. “I needed to hear that.”

The woman smiled. “You’re welcome,” she said. “Now, it’s time for you to see the light.”

The woman moved closer, and she held out her hand. I took her hand, and she led me out of the lounge. We walked through the house, and we stepped outside.

The sun was shining, and the birds were singing. I took a deep breath, and I felt the warmth of the sun on my face.

“I can see the light,” I said.

The woman smiled. “I knew you could,” she said. “Now, go and live your life.”

The woman turned and walked away, and I watched her go. I knew that I would never forget her. She had helped me to see the light, and she had given me hope.

I turned and walked back into my house. I was still feeling a little bit down, but I knew that I was going to be okay. I had seen the light, and I knew that there was hope for me.

Then I woke up. The feeling of depression slowly started to spread until it was all I could think about. I tried to focus on the dream, I tried really hard but the pain and constant reminder of what my life is blocked the light from shining through. It was a nightmare. Tormenting me that things could get better. The person on the other end of the phone yesterday said that self-harm serves a purpose and if it ultimately stops me from taking the final action then it’s a means to an end. Except I know its not. I want to, so badly, but I don’t think I could stop if I did. Maybe hurting my arm with something that no one can see would help. I’m scared of the reaction. It’s not like anyone sees me naked. Not that they would ever want to anyway.

Expectations

I’m having some major anxiety issues at the moment. I’m sure my leg shaking can be heard from miles around. It’s on hyperdrive mode at the moment, when it’s not shaking my soul is trying to escape through from my stomach. Soul. Stomach. The demon might be better tbh. I just need to try and take my mind off it for a few minutes to calm it down, I’ve got music on but not loud as the kids are home. Usually, my go-to is my headphones but if I put them on I’m scared the kids will stand behind me and when I turn around they’ll scream or do some scary shit and I’ll freak out. So headphones are a no-go at the moment.

I think the dogs know something is up. Well. Nina does anyway, she keeps coming over and nudging me. Usually, she just sits in the corner staring. Dobby has found himself a sock and is currently chewing it. I tried to play fetch but she wasn’t having non of it and sat down for a good long chew. What do you do if a dog swallows a sock? it’s a big sock. I’m overthinking it.

D came back at 3am from her holiday with S in Greece. Staring at them is so painful it burns my skin. The word lobster comes to mind. Just pure sunburn everywhere! I gave S some cream this morning that D left out for her. She’s not going to school today as it would be torture with her sunburn putting on the uniform. Hopefully, she’ll be fine to go tomorrow. B is still at home as his school has an extra week off. So I’ve been watching him play different games and amused him since I’ve come back, well, since D left for Greece BUT OMG best present ever, 3 counterfeit packets of Pokemon cards to go in my weird and bizarre collection of cards. Just been through them now. They are quite good to play with but they are so golden that it makes it hard to read the writing on the cards. Awesome present.

Today is the 8th anniversary of me and D getting married. Aww. It has actually flown past but it’s a nice reminder to see how long we’ve been together. I do love her and hope we have many more in the future! We agreed to celebrate it later in the month as she’s shattered (amongst other things) and won’t be home till late.

I feel a bit better. Well no. no I don’t. But I did for a few minutes while I was typing it up. Thank you for listening.

Dantes Inferno

So looking back on my life the past few weeks has become a bit troubling. The sleep things. They are by far the most annoying thing happening at this moment in time. Although it’s not sleep. And it’s not being awake either. It’s a nothing existence. I go to bed. I sleep for 8 hours. I wake up. I feel like I haven’t slept in days. I’m falling asleep sitting on the sofa, mid-conversation, bathroom, and eating. It’s like I have never slept and it is absolutely killing me. It feels like I should get relief but I don’t. I spend the whole day daydreaming before being nudged.

I’m losing D.

I’m losing the kids.

They can’t take this shit anymore and it’s pretty clear that I have no life. I wake, I stay wake, I sleep and so it repeats. I don’t go out with the kids anymore, I don’t go to fun events or socials. I just literally do nothing but be in pain from not sleeping. I find it so hard to stay awake I have to move or shake a body part to distract myself.

D wants me to go to a&e but I’ve had it instilled in me from a very young age that unless your limb has been detached or your are is broken, you simply must suffer in silence rather than waste the doctor’s time. The only exception to that rule was when I overdosed back in 2016 and ended up in hospital for a few days. That was hell. Let’s not repeat that.

I don’t want to die. I think I like torturing myself with existing. Death would be a sweet release for the worthy. And that I sincerely am not. So If I’m not going to die and I have to live a half-life I will dedicate it to helping D with the kids & dogs till a replacement andy 2.0 can be delivered. She is absolutely stunning so there will be no shortage of suitors.

Easter aka Zombie Jesus Day

It’s been a real roller coaster the past few days, to be honest. I started getting hounded with thoughts and imaginary guilt trips which I really didn’t need. Why I do this to myself I don’t know. Reliving memories and seeing the pain, hurt, and suffering I’ve caused. My brain takes it out of context and amplifies it a thousand times over. Laying in bed not being able to sleep because of all the noise. So I conceded and took Valium early yesterday morning, then iterated it through the day. It helped. I slept at night. Progress. I even managed to mow the grass out back and it looks much better out there now.

Today I woke up and got the dogs out on the morning walk at 7am. Tried to make as little noise as possible so everyone could sleep in. D appeared not long after I was back and she had a moment of doubt about her Easter traditions. So I put my hand up, helped, and think we got it sorted. See. We are a dysfunctional family in a way. D and I sat at the table, B was by the window with his ear defenders on so he could both not see us eat or hear us. S her usual self absent on the sofa. Five minutes passed. Kids had the easter breakfast and disappeared leaving D and me to watch mass on tv. I take that as a victory. The kids left their rooms, they shared the basket offering and wished each other good things, had a plate full of Polish goodness (salads, sausage, and cakes), then ate with us before going. That to me is a win. It’s not massive, by no means normal to have that but considering both kids have MH-related issues it was good.

Part of me wishes for a normal household. One able to go on walks or cinemas without one of the kids being triggered or me for that matter. I do hate the burden I bring but am adamant that it won’t defeat me nor my marriage.

That’s another easter done and dusted. Still got some chocolate egg left so will demolish that.

Hope you’ve all had a good respective holiday 🙂

When mum comes to visit

I’ve been meaning to write this down for a few days now before it gets lost in the mess that is my brain. I was walking out of the shop before getting the kids from school and clear as day I heard “Hoi lieverd, echt een prachtige zon vandaag. Hoe het met jou?” in my mums voice. It instantly brought a smile to my face. I answered in my head that it is a lovely day today and hope she is ok wherever that might be. Loosely translated she said “Hey sweetheart, its a really beautiful sun today. How are you?”.

I was thinking about it the rest of the day, I even went to go and call my mum to let her know I heard her. It was nice because it was so unexpected. With my conditions its not unusual for me to have visual and audio halluncinations. Especially audiable ones. Usually its the odd random word, sometimes internal, sometimes external.

Then I realise within those moments that Mum died in 2014 from lung cancer and the joys that come with having that.

I have mixed emotions when it comes to Mum. Part of me is angry with her and the way she did certain things. I’m also happy and thankful that I had her as a mum, as I had a liberal upbringing. Then when you throw my Dad dying a couple of years ago it all gets a bit confusing and conflicted in my brain so I have to quickly compartmentalise the memories so as to stop being triggered.

I’ve been feeling down lately. I’m struggling with suicidal thoughts again. Planning phase so its escalated from passing thoughts to active. If it gets worse to dates of doing it then, well, I’ll make sure to tell people but not till then. No point worrying them. I’m already the root cause of being the dysfunctional person in the family. But yes. Can’t escape the thoughts anymore. Hanging, wrists, meds… I’ve already crossed the line into abuse of meds again but thats just to escape the cycle. Its not working as it usually does though. Usually I can take something and it will knock me off the thought patterns. It used to be self harm but I’ve not done that since September last year I think when I started burning myself with lighters for a changing and left yet more scarring to my arms and wrists.

On the plus side we have a new member of the family. A doggo. Named Nina. She is a 5 year old rescue dog who was really badly treated, beaten and starved. She has such a lovely temperment though. We are all slowly falling in love with her and her with us. It started off as getting an emotional support animal for me to have. Then evolved into saving a dog from a horrible life and an injection. I’ll keep you posted on how she settles. Fortunately she is 5 so shes toilet trained and also very chilled for a doggie. The ones we have had in the past have had quirks but I haven’t found any with Nina yet. Bella is a bit jealous. She is still the best cat in the world. For me. Which I’m thankful for as I can sit anywhere in the house and she will come and sit with me for company. *looks behind* as demonstrated she has curled up in the fetal position behind me.

Work is proving challenging at the moment. I knew I was going to have highs and lows when I started my venture. Having been burned out from previous rolls and having psychotic episodes I was told to stop working by the doctors. Last March I declared myself open for business and the books are now leveling which is great for charity work. I won’t get into details as I would rather people not see my thoughts if they knew who this was. However, you dear reader, I’m sure have worked it out and if not, could do so quite quickly.

I’ll go back to planning things. Music. Clothes. Who gets what.

It’ll pass.

It has to.
